REIGNITE YOUR THOUGHTS
“Your principles can’t be extinguished unless you snuff out the thoughts that feed them, for it’s continually in your power to reignite new ones. . . . It’s possible to start living again! See things anew as you once did—that is how to restart life!”
—MARCUS AURELIUS, MEDITATIONS, 7.2
Life with fibromyalgia has thrown me many curveballs. The chronic pain, fatigue, and cognitive difficulties can often feel overwhelming, leaving me feeling lost and adrift. But amidst the challenges, I've rediscovered a powerful truth: learning and helping others are the cornerstones of a meaningful life.
This realization harkens back to my childhood. I've always found joy in understanding things deeply, whether it was deciphering complex math problems for my classmates or diving headfirst into the world of technology to support others online. Even in the face of debilitating illness, I refuse to let my thirst for knowledge and desire to contribute fade.
My journey with fibromyalgia has presented a unique opportunity: to become an advocate for others living with this invisible condition. By immersing myself in research, I'm learning about the latest treatments, coping strategies, and support resources. My goal is to share this knowledge with others, to empower them with information and build a community of support.
Just as I once helped my classmates find different ways to solve problems, I now seek to help others find their own paths to navigate the complexities of living with fibromyalgia. This journey may be slow and unpredictable, but with each new piece of information I gather, I feel a renewed sense of purpose.
This approach extends beyond the realm of health. My passion for gardening, for example, provides another avenue for learning and sharing. Experimenting with different plants, observing their growth cycles, and discovering new techniques not only brings me joy but also allows me to share my knowledge with others, whether it's through online forums, local gardening groups, or simply by inspiring others to connect with nature.
Marcus Aurelius reminds us that "it's continually in your power to reignite new ones." I am embracing this truth, reigniting my passion for learning and finding new ways to contribute to the world around me. Even in the face of adversity, I believe that by focusing on my values and seeking to help others, I can find meaning and purpose in every day.
